Decarbonisation Industry Working Group

The Decarbonisation Industry Working Group was launched in June 2024 by the Manufacturing Circle in collaboration with several leading industry associations.
The Working Group is making progress in shaping its objectives, deliverables and workplans, with activities currently structured around three focused Workstreams:
• MRV (Measurement, Reporting and Verification)
• Policy
• Decarbonisation
This collaborative effort reflects a shared commitment across industry to proactively address carbon border challenges and ensure long-term competitiveness for South African exporters.

South African Renewable Energy Masterplan (SAREM)
SAREM was launched in June 2025. The master plan’s overall vision is the industrialisation of the renewable energy and battery storage value chain to enable inclusive participation in the energy transition, serving the needs of society and contributing to economic revival.
Following the launch, Manufacturing Circle held has set up a monthly SAREM Industry Working Group to align on commitments and targets focusing on:
• Reconfirming and refining SAREM commitments and targets
• Reviewing local content gaps in private sector projects
• Aligning on participation in SAREM implementation
• Responding to current crises and identifying potential remedies
• Developing an actionable industry plan moving forward
